Travel Information
Language
English is the official language of the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Spanish is also widely spoken.
Currency
The U.S. Dollar (USD) is used throughout the islands. ATMs are available on all three islands, and the most widely accepted credit cards are Visa and Mastercard.
Time
St. Croix observes Atlantic Standard Time (AST) and does not follow Daylight Saving Time. The time is the same as Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the summer and one hour ahead during the winter.
Driving
Driving is on the left side of the road. Seatbelts are required by law, and the use of handheld mobile phones while driving is prohibited. Hands-free devices are permitted.
Passports
U.S. citizens do not need a passport to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands, although carrying one is recommended. A passport is required for travel to nearby British or French West Indies islands.
Weather
The U.S. Virgin Islands enjoy warm, tropical weather year-round. Summer temperatures are typically slightly warmer than winter. Tropical storms and hurricanes are most likely during late summer and early fall.
